Apple is delaying the launch of watchOS 2 after discovering a major bug. The new OS was supposed to be released concurrently with iOS 9, but Apple Watch owners will have to wait a bit longer for the newest software.
Here’s the official statement from Apple:
We have discovered a bug in development of watchOS 2 that is taking a bit longer to fix than we expected. We will not release watchOS 2 today but will shortly.
A new era of tech events has begun
We’re back in New York this November for the 4th edition of our growth-focused technology event.
There’s no information on what the bug was, however, nor any indication that the bug was present.
WatchOS 2 is a major update with numerous features. Most notably, third part apps can run natively on the watch, as opposed to being streamed from your phone. That makes them faster and more powerful. It also adds various new watch faces, advanced complications, and a smart agenda feature named TimeTravel.
Many will be disappointed by the delay, but it’s probably better to be safe than sorry. If all goes well we shouldn’t have to wait much longer until it’s sorted.
